How It All Started

My Wellness Journey

I have decided that it is time for me to document my story about my health. My journey is ongoing, but isn't that the story for anyone dealing with health issues. A lot of the time, I feel like my progress is slow. Because for me, I have been dealing with this since 2010. Or at least, that is the last time I can remember feeling "normal." And since then, it seems that I encounter one thing after another.

It all started with some pain radiating behind my right shoulder blade. It was an athletic injury that I just didn't seem to get any relief. In my mind, I thought that I just popped my shoulder out of place. I would seek a door jam and shove that jam right behind my shoulder blade to find relief. Or, I would contort my arm in outstretched positions to release some of the tension. At first, it worked. But eventually, it just became temporary. It wasn't until 2013 when someone convinced me that I needed to seek chiropractic care.

I hadn't seen a chiropractor in years. I am leery of anyone touching me, let alone adjusting me. The first chiropractor I went to was old. He would use a technique that did not involve manipulating the bones. In fact, I did not allow him to even crack my neck.

That chiropractor did his best to win his battle against Father Time, but Father Time did win. I did seek other chiropractors because my husband believes that chiropractic care is one way to stay healthy. These other chiropractors did not do a good job, or so I felt. There was one whom adjusted my husband, but something about him I did not like. So, I didn't stay consistent with my chiropractic care for a long time.

While on a trip out of country for training, a teacher noticed that I was still trying to find relief for my shoulder injury. He stated that I really needed to get that checked out since it had been going on for quite sometime. He suggested that I get some chiropractic care. I was hesitant because I did not find a chiropractor that I felt like I could rely on. But I trusted this person and felt that he would not lead me astray. So I went to this chiropractor that he was referring to, it just so happened to be his son.

I scheduled an appointment. My husband came with me so that we both would know what was causing all this pain. We went through the intake process, answered health related questions, told the doc what ailed me, and took x-rays. We found out that I definitely did a number on my body.

It seems that I did not pop my shoulder out. Oh, it was far worse. It would not be a simple adjustment. And because I had let this "injury" stay in this state for nearly 3 years, I had a long road ahead to recovery. It would require me coming in for adjustments every week; 2 - 3 times a week. There were days when an adjustment relieved the ailment. Then there were days when there seemed to be no relief in sight. It was a long time before I overcame this injury and started to feelin normal. How long did it take? Come back to my blog and I will tell you.
