You Have Got To Be Kidding

Just when I thought things would be better. I mean, it took 2 years to get my ribs to stay in place. I was able to turn or sneeze without a fear of my ribs popping out. I was on my way to being mended. Or so I thought. Things are not easy, sometimes.

I woke up feeling great. Ribs were staying in. The alarm clock was going off, but there were no movement from the other side of the house. I put on my socks so that I wouldn't have to feel the cold living room floor as I made my way to the other side of the house. I passed the kitchen, and started to walk pass the sofa, then headed in between the coffee table and the fireplace.

I started calling for my daughter. She was definitely not up. She was still asleep. She needed to get up and get ready for school. She usually took a while to get ready, and I sure did not want her to be late getting to school.

No sooner had I rounded the corner of the coffee table when my feet went slipping and sliding right from under me. All I could think of was..."don't hit that bronze statue on the coffee table". That thing is solid and definitely will hurt my head, if not knock me unconscious. So, I braced myself because I thought I surely was going to knock myself out by hitting that table.

Fortunately, I did not hit my head. I sure did come pretty close though. What I ended up doing was way worse. I missed the bronze statue, but I landed really hard onto the coffee table. It knocked the wind out of me. I laid on the ground in excruciating pain with my eyes closed tight. I was holding my breath hoping the pain would subside.

I heard my daughter scream, "Mom! Mom!" Then I heard her and my husband running into the living room to see what had happened to me. My husband was trying to pick me up. I told him, "Don't touch me. Let me lay here." He asked, "What happened?" It seemed like time was passing so slow. All I wanted was to breathe and not hurt.

After a while, I was able to breathe. I attempted to sit, but my husband had to assist me. I was able to tell both of them what had happened. He said, "Well, the good thing is that you missed that statue because if you hadn't, you will surely had knocked yourself out." I agreed with him.

I spent the rest of the day sitting in the recliner that as closest to where I had fallen. Every time I had tried to move, I was in agony. Later, I managed to call Doc to set an appointment. I let Doc's wife know what happened. She scheduled me to get in early the following morning. Goodness, when Doc examined me, I was worse than when I popped my ribs out.
