Not What I Thought

The chiropractor looked at the results. The x-rays showed that there were nothing broken or out of place. The doc decided that he would do an exam and an adjustment. What he found, I was not expecting. I surely thought that I had popped my shoulder out of place. I was so sure of it, I even told the doc what I thought.

Doc told me that it wasn't my shoulder, instead, I had popped my ribs out of place. Wait, WHAT! Not one rib, BUT 3. And to top it all off, my ribs had been out for so long that they thought it was natural for it to be out of place. Ugh, 3 years out of place, Great! What did this all mean for me? At least it meant that it was fixable. However, it was going to be a long process. How long? We did not know. It really depended on how quickly my body would accept my ribs being put back into place...AND hopefully it will stay that way.

For starters, it meant that I would have to start coming in at least 2 -3 times a week to get those ribs adjusted back into place. Then hopefully if all goes well, we can go once a week, then once every 2 weeks, and at the minimum, once a month. Mind you, this would be if all goes well and progress was good. Doc told me, "It would have been better if you had broken them, then they would heal." Wonderful, how long will this take for me to heal and get these ribs back into place and start feeling "normal" again?

I got Doc to agree that twice a week to begin with would be a good start. It started off good. Or so I thought. That was until the adjustments started to hurt. That was because the ribs decided they were not going to cooperate. Turning the wrong way, sneezing, or coughing hard would pop them out. Why couldn't it be so easy. Of course it wouldn't be. Nothing in my life could ever be so easy. Some adjustments were easy-peasy, but there were ones that were awful. We incorporated the water chair, some stimulation therapy, ice packs, massages and various other therapies that I have forgotten.

It definitely was a process. Thankfully, the process was a positive progress. It took nearly 2 years to get the ribs to finally stay in place. I was finally starting to feel like things would be back to normal. That I would not have to worry about my ribs popping out of place. That maybe turning wrong or sneezing would not hurt. But remember, nothing in my life could ever be so easy. What happened next, well, come back and I will tell you.
